Miaofeng
Mountain Scenic Spot is located in Mentougou district
of west Beijing suburb, 55km from downtown. Covering
20 square meters in area, the spot is quite famous for
its ancient temple, odd pines and queer rocks. Miaofeng
Mountian is a part of Taihang mountain range, composed
by igneous rocks with its highest peak 1291 meters high
above sea level. The steering mountians are mistcovered
by cliffs of uniques shapes and peaks of fantastic aspects
towering into the clouds. Standing on the summit, a
magnificant vista will be laid out before you with the
sunrise, sunglow, freezing mist and fairy stones. However,
this is far less than what the haunt will provide you.
A spacious rose garden occupying an area of 1000mu and
imbued with sweat aroma of roses features one of the
most unique scenery of the local area. Every year a
large temple affair will be held and thousands of people
will gather around to offer incense to the Buddhist,
adding an extra cultural atmosphere to the place. The
event is the largest one of its kind in north China
area.
Huijisi,
one of the best known sites of Miaofent Mountian, was
originally built in Liao dynasty. It consists of three
temple groups, namely Linggan Palace, Huixiang Palace,
Yuhuang Summit. They stand proudly orderly from bottom
to top, emerging themselves among the pine forest. The
14 magnificant temples are placed with a lot of Gods
and powful spirits of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianismin
and folk legends. 
The
yearly held temple gathering is an important event of
the local area which started as early as Ming dynasty
and already lasted for over 300 years. From Apr. 1 to
Apr.15 each year, thousands of pilgrims will be congregate
from different place across the country to offer incense
and pray for blessings from God. Various activities
will be held such as free porridge offering and traditional
skills performance. The 15-day-last event is spilled
over with joyous atmosphere with crowded people, incense
smoke and light-up candles all day and night. The scene
is vividly described in some ancient books such as Yanjing-Sui-Shi-Ji
written by Dunchong, a rich merchant of Qing dynasty.
In 1952, Beijing University organized an investigation
on the temple affair of Miaofeng Mountain in search
of its significant contribution to the formation of
Chinese traditional culture. The facts and opinions
are summarized in the later pulished book Pilgrim
in Miaofeng Mountain, the first Chinese publication
on such a subject which led a beginning of series of
research work on folklore across the country. From then
on, Miaofeng Mountain became the original place of Chinese
folklore.
Sheer
precipice and over hanging rocks are enveloped by wild
flowers and old pine trees, Beautiful and magnificent
scenery prevails with singing birds and fragrant flowers
and everything full of life and vitality. Miaofeng Mountain
provides rich resource of rare plants and herbals and
the beautiful flower blossom will please your eyes all
year round with pink peach flower, purple lilac, jade
pear flower and countless others.
Other
famous spots include Xiyin Temple, Dayun Temple, Dishuiyan(water
droping cave, one of the Eight Famous Sceneries in Beijing),
the villa which ever lived by Zhushitun, the famous
loyal teacher of emperor Puyi of Qing Dynasty, etc.
Visiting
Miaofeng Mountian without seeing its pines and rocks
will be a great regret. As long as you are surrounded
by these fantastic creatures, you would understand why
it comes to this conclusion. The breath-taking vista
just make you wonder you are standing in a wonderland
embellished around with dense green pines and queer
rocks which vary their shapes with your imagination.
Collect a paramount view of boundless scenery at the
summit and take a breath to enjoy the moment being harmony
with nature!
